DRAW YOUR FAKE TATTOOS

If you decided this year is your chance to try keeping a daily sketchbook, that’s awesome. If you’re off to a bumpy start as we round the corner on week two, that’s OK!

When setting sketchbook-related goals, just remember to start slow. Try to set small, achievable goals. For example, could you do 10 minutes a day? Or maybe 20?

My number one daily sketchbook goal is this:

“Draw in a sketchbook for 20 minutes a day.”

Twenty minutes still requires discipline, but it’s a manageable goal. It helps me get into the routine and focus more on the process.

Draw your FAKE tattoos!

This is a fun, weird sketchbook assignment you can do anytime you feel stuck.

Suggestions:

  • Use whatever art supplies you feel the most comfortable with. Here are a few of my favorites.
  • Start by making a list of topics that interest you, such as knitting, coffee, unicorns, Old Bay seasoning, Japanese pens, turtles that know martial arts, etc.
  • Decide if you want to draw a body with the tattoos (like in my example above) OR a flash page. Flash tattoos are a page with floating designs, like a sticker sheet.

Read more about Flash here: https://thehonorablesociety.com/posts/tattoo-flash/

  • If drawing in your sketchbook stresses you out, try sketching on paper first!
